McLaren Lake is located 4 miles NorthWest of Hesperia, MI. McLaren Lake has a beautiful shoreline of 4.95 miles. It's surface area is 271 acres and its depth reaches 70 feet. The lake is also connected to two other lakes by way of small channels (impassable by prop boats). These lakes are Butternut and Kennedy, each to the West. The channel from McLaren to Kennedy is also the start of the North branch of the White River. Many other bodies of water surround the lake and together are referred to as the Five Lakes because of their connection by such channels. McLaren lake offers fishing for Walleye, Perch, Large and Smallmouth Bass, Northern Pike, and Panfish. Recreational activities include swimming, boating, waterskiing, tubing, kneeboarding, and wakeboarding.

History of McLaren Lake

Alexander McLaren (also spelled Mac Laren) was born July 1802 in Scotland. In 1858, Mclaren moved from Grand Rapids, MI to a 69 acre farm in "White River Country" (Mac Laren, 1935, p. 8). In 1876, McLaren bought two pieces of U.S. Government Land around an unnamed lake. Since that time, the lake has been called McLaren Lake. (Oceana, 1992, p. 237)
